Nature Reserve in Bergen

Along with Gas Storage Bergermeer (GSB) partner Energie Beheer Nederland (EBN), TAQA in the
Netherlands agreed in 2011 to undertake a series of environment-related projects in the local area as
part of the GSB planning approval process. These initiatives, designed to compensate for disturbance to
the local landscape during GSB construction several years ago, included a commitment to establish a
meadow bird nature reserve of approximately 30 hectares in size. After several years of trying to find
and secure an appropriate site close to where our development work had caused disturbance, TAQA
took ownership of a 24-hectare area of open land just outside the township of Bergen late 2019. The
additional six hectares have been compensated financially, with the money earmarked to support
another local nature reserve project.
